The Tampa Tribune: With St. Louis resting Friday, Tarnasky worked with Lecavalier and Prospal in practice. RW Ruslan Fedotenko worked with Richards and Ward on the second line, with a variety of forwards, including Eric Perrin, Tim Taylor, Ryan Craig and Blair Jones, dressed in the fourth-line gold practice jerseys.
Tarnasky is expected to rejoin Karlsson and Roy for Game 2 today. The question is how Tortorella will choose to use Fedotenko and Perrin, who both committed costly turnovers in Game 1.

The Tampa Tribune: Also taking advantage of the switch was right wing Ruslan Fedotenko, who began the two-game series on the third line with Tim Taylor and Ryan Craig and by the third period Saturday found himself reunited with his former longtime linemates, Lecavalier and Prospal.
That group, with help from defenseman Paul Ranger, produced Lecavalier's game-winning goal in the third period.

The Star-Ledger: St. Louis and Lecavalier started the series on the same line, allowing the Devils to send John Madden's checking unit and the top defense pairing of Colin White and Brian Rafalski out on the two as much as possible.
But with St. Louis and Lecavalier split up, it forced the Devils to pick their poison. St. Louis went to Brad Richards' line, while Ruslan Fedotenko slid up to play with Lecavalier —- and the Lightning likes that look.
«With Madden playing against Vinny (Lecavalier) all the time, it gets Marty (St. Louis) away from Colin White, who he matches up against a lot," Richards said. «It's just a hunch by the coaches. It worked.»
The Devils didn't put much stock in the idea that the switch threw them somehow. The Scott Gomez line was on the ice against Richards' line when St. Louis scored, but Lou Lamoriello blamed that goal on a turnover in the neutral zone.
«When the split was made, we saw it," the Devils coach said. «They got that goal, but it was on a turnover. The rest of the game, it wasn't something we were overly concerned about.»
Tortorella said he «doesn't have a clue» if he'll keep the split going in Game 3 tomorrow night in Tampa. If he does, his players won't be fazed. The forwards on the Lightning's top two lines believe themselves to be interchangeable, having played in various combinations before.
«I've played with Feds (Fedotenko) and Vaclav (Prospal) for four or five years, so it's kind of going back to that," Lecavalier said. «We know how to play, and same thing with Marty and Richie (Richards).»
Whatever combination Tortorella goes with in Game 3, he doesn't think about how the Devils will combat it. He doesn't get involved in trying to figure out what the other team will do.
«We know Johnny Madden is going to check Vinny, and that line there," Tortorella said. «However they want to handle it, that's Lou's job. That's their team. We're just concerned about our club, and we were just a little stale (in the second) and we've done it all year long, change things up.
«Tonight, we get the goal from Marty and then Vinny scores. So we'll see where it goes.»

Bolts Banking On Fedotenko's Success

The Tampa Tribune: Tortorella is hoping to see that again from Fedotenko, who has looked energized playing on one of the top two lines in the past game, including being reunited with Lecavalier and Vinny Prospal in the third period Saturday.
«They have played together for a long time, those three, and have been very effective," Tortorella said. «The thing I liked about Feds is how strong he was on the puck as far as keeping it and forechecking. So his game, we need him. … He needs to step up and that's why he has been put in some situations here early in the series because we need to try to get him going.»

The Tampa Tribune: There were times this season when we'd add up the number of goals Prospal and the even-more-absent Ruslan Fedotenko had combined for. After 82 games, they stood at 26, five less than Freddie Modin scored last season, and the Bolts gave Modin up for Marc Denis.
How could you not circle Vinny Prospal's name in red ink?
«He struggled," Lightning coach John Tortorella said. «But you look at the chances he created this year and he's right there with all our top scorers. There just hasn't been any finish, there hasn't been a big play consistently for him.»
...
We're still waiting to hear from Fedotenko, who three years ago scored the Lightning's only two goals the night the Bolts won Game 7 against Calgary, the night the Lightning won the Cup.

The Associated Press: Lightning RW Ruslan Fedotenko was a healthy scratch after dressing for Game 5 but not playing. He was benched because of a lack of production. He scored one goal in his last 29 games.

The Tampa Tribune: Stanley Cup hero Ruslan Fedotenko is officially out with the Lightning. Though he will forever be known around Tampa Bay as the player who scored both goals in a Game 7 victory against Calgary to clinch the Cup, Fedotenko had a very disappointing season scoring 12 goals after netting 26 last season. He was also benched for the entire game in Game 5 against New Jersey and was a healthy scratch for Game 6.
“Both parties agreed to disagree,’’ Fedotenko said after his meetings with John Tortorella and Jay Feaster on Monday. «I had high expectations this season and it just didn't work out. «It's just time to close the book here and see what happens.»
Though Fedotenko is an unrestricted free agent, he will not be extended a contract offer from Tampa Bay.

USA Today: ...wing Ruslan Fedotenko: For those diving into the shallow end of the pool, Fedotenko might be an intriguing roll of the dice, even though he did not produce as expected this. A general manager might try to convince himself that Fedotenko is a 20-goal scorer if the price is right. Age: 28 2006-07 salary: $1.6 million. Projection: $1-1.6 million…
