Bergenheim let go a shot from the high slot to make it 2-1 just 41 seconds later, and the Islanders made it a two-goal edge exactly 2 minutes later when Ruslan Fedotenko took advantage of a misplay by Lundqvist at the edge of the trapezoid and another turnover in front. His shot from the right circle was deflected in by Hunter.

Newsday: At 4:16 of the second period, the Islanders evened the game at 2. Trent Hunter got his third takeaway of the game in the neutral zone on the right side and centered to Fedotenko coming down the middle on a breakaway. Fedotenko's point-blank backhand squeezed between Ramo's pads and dribbled toward the goal line before Ramo accidentally kicked it in.
...
The Islanders remained 12th in the Eastern Conference while dropping to 32-32-7. Philadelphia gained a point with an overtime loss in Toronto to remain in the eighth and final playoff spot with 79 points, eight ahead of the Isles, who have 11 games remaining. To make matters worse, Isles forward Ruslan Fedotenko had to be helped off the ice in the third period after hurting his left knee in a collision with Jeff Halpern.
...
To top things off, Ruslan Fedotenko joined the Islanders' growing injury list when he suffered a sprained left knee in the third period, and just when the Isles thought it couldn't get any worse, the Lightning scored three goals in a span of 42 seconds, starting with one that completed a hat trick by Vincent Lecavalier to give him 36 goals for the season. That set a franchise record for fastest three goals against the Islanders, one second faster than the old mark set by Washington on Nov. 23, 1988.

Newsday: Starting in warm-ups for Tuesday night's 8-4 loss in Tampa Bay, the Islanders lost three more veterans to injury, including forwards Andy Hilbert and Ruslan Fedotenko and defenseman Brendan Witt. Considering the number of injury replacements already dotting his lineup, Ted Nolan moaned, «I don't know if we're the New York Islanders or the Bridgeport Sound Tigers right now.»
By the time his team took the ice against Florida last night at BankAtlantic Center, Nolan's joking comment was a lot closer to reality. The Islanders yesterday called up Sound Tiger forwards Steve Regier and Tim Jackman to replace Hilbert (ankle) and Fedotenko (sprained knee) and defenseman Matthew Spiller to step in for Witt, who no longer can play effectively on his sprained knee

Newsday: Popular backup goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, who helped the Islanders reach the playoffs two seasons ago, is among a group of unrestricted free agents the club plans to let go. General manager Garth Snow said no offers have been made to forwards Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko and Josef Vasicek because of the need for roster space for a youth movement, and «Dubie» rejected the offer he received.
...
Snow said his scouting staff will meet this week to complete plans for a strategy when the free-agent market opens July 1. It's unlikely that Satan, Fedotenko or Vasicek will receive an offer.
«I don't want to be in a situation where I compromise the ice time of some of our younger players who we're committed to giving the opportunity to make the team," Snow said. «If we start loading up with too many bodies, then that squeezes out some of our young guys. I don't want to do that.»

TSN: Though the Stars don't have room for any big-ticket signings, they could shore up their forward ranks with a second or third tier winger like Michael Ryder, Martin Straka or Ruslan Fedotenko.

The New York Sun: For the Islanders, look for there to be considerable interest in Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko, two talented forwards who will likely be bargains after subpar 2007-08 campaigns. Typically a very dangerous sniper, Satan lit the lamp only 16 times in 80 games last season. Meanwhile, Fedotenko was a playoff hero for the Lightning in 2004, scoring 12 goals to help Tampa capture the Cup, but his production for the Isles has been underwhelming.

PENGUINS SHOP ON THE ISLAND
TSN: ...
Fedotenko, 29, has established his value as a complementary winger who can chip in a little offensively, just once surpassing 20 goals in his seven NHL seasons.
Perhaps, if planted alongside a superstar centre, this could be the year that Fedotenko goes for 50-plus points for the first time in his career but, given his track record, it's much safer to expect him to handle some second-line and third-line duty and perhaps put up 15-20 goals and 35-40 points.
Like Satan, Fedotenko has the opportunity to elevate his numbers because he joins a better team. The one-year, $2.25-million contract may be a tad pricey for what Fedotenko provides, but the short-term deal makes sense for the Penguins.
The Islanders aren't exactly blessed with goal scorers to replace Satan and Fedotenko, but rookie Kyle Okposo, a returning Jon Sim and young players like Jeff Tambellini and Blake Comeau will be among those charged with filling the offensive void.

FOX Sports: Fedotenko was once considered a promising winger with the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Remember, he scored both goals in the Lightning's Cup clinching win over the Calgary Flames in Game 7 of the 2004 Final. But his stock has fallen since his career-best 26 goal, 41 point performance in 2005-06 and last season he had 16 goals and 33 points in 67 games with the Islanders. Contrast that with Malone, whose career-best 54 points in the regular season and strong playoff performance and leadership were instrumental in Pittsburgh's success in 2007-08, and Fedotenko could — like Satan — be filling skates too large for him.
